Confident Pricing.

Knowing your worth and confidently pricing yourself for your services.

Have you ever discounted your services for fear of losing a potential client?

If so it may have been because you thought your work isn’t quite up to scratch, or they wouldn’t have the budget. So what do you do? Many people go to other photographers websites to find out what they’re charging. But there are a few things you should know before you copy someone else packages to ensure you are confidently charging your worth.

In this post I will tell you what you need to know to make sure you’re creating packages for clients you want to work with, so you can successfully grow your business.

The year after I graduated from photography school, I was paying $600 a month for a desk in a studio space with five other photographers. I was going to networking meetings every week, and trying everything possible to grow my business. I was ticking all the boxes for ‘appearing’ to be a professional photographer. But on the inside I was scared, that once someone did book me, I wouldn’t take good enough photos, or they wouldn’t like my work.

I also struggled with knowing how much to charge, I was offering $250 headshots that would take half a day to set up, plus another half a day to edit. When it came to getting advice from more experienced photographers they were very cagey about sharing how much they charged.

I realised something unusual was happening from the outside when I had a meeting with an older gentleman from my BNI group. As he looked at my website he said:

“Your work looks great, but you look too expensive and that might hold people back from enquiring with you”.

I was in a pickle, my work looked great but I looked too expensive yet I was undercharging and not making ends meet.

If you have experienced this situation, the best method to ensure you end up confidently charging your worth and knowing your work IS GOOD ENOUGH is by looking for these things:

  • Make sure you have worked out your personal and business budget and get super clear on what you need to be charging. This enables you to pay your bills and do all the fun things life has to offer. If you don’t you might have thoughts of quitting, getting a paid job or continuing to work long hours and not financially get ahead.

  • Ensure your folio is up to date, and print your favourite photos to display in your workspace, this will remind your every day how good your skills are.

  • Knowing that you are always going to do your best and go above and beyond for your clients. And that you will never let yourself down and this is good enough.

  • Lastly, remember your client has enquired and booked with you because they have seen your work, and they love what you do.

Now that you know how much to charge and that you have a gift and talent that is unique to you, you’re ready to confidently put yourself out there without worrying if your dream client can afford you or if your work is up to scratch.
